Frequently Asked Questions
What is NAC?
NAC stands for N-Acetyl L-Cysteine. It is a highly stable and bioavailable supplement form of the semi-essential amino acid L-cysteine. Its most crucial role in the body is acting as a direct precursor to glutathione, which is widely recognised as the body's most powerful "master antioxidant."
What are the benefits of NAC?
The primary benefits of NAC revolve around its ability to replenish intracellular glutathione levels, which helps neutralise free radicals and oxidative stress. Additionally, it supports liver function and natural detoxification pathways, promotes healthy respiratory and lung function, and aids in exercise recovery by protecting your cells from the wear-and-tear of everyday stressors.
What is the difference between NAC and other forms?
While you can get standard L-cysteine from high-protein foods, it is not always easily absorbed by the body. NAC (the N-Acetyl form) is an altered, highly stable version of L-cysteine that boasts significantly higher bioavailability. This means your body can absorb and utilise it much more efficiently to boost your antioxidant defences.
How much NAC should I take?
For optimal results, the recommended dosage of OHC 100% Pure NAC is 1200mg daily. This equates to taking two (2) of our 600mg capsules per day. You can take them with or without food, or as directly advised by your healthcare practitioner.
Is NAC safe?
NAC is widely studied and generally considered safe for most adults when taken at the recommended dosages. However, as noted on our packaging, this product is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18, or by pregnant or lactating women. If you have any pre-existing health conditions, we always recommend consulting with your healthcare provider before starting a new supplement.
Can I take NAC with other supplements?
Yes, NAC is very commonly taken alongside other vitamins, minerals, and longevity supplements. Because it supports fundamental cellular health and detoxification, it makes an excellent foundational addition to a comprehensive wellness stack. If you are currently taking prescription medications, please consult your doctor first to ensure there are no interactions.
